C&A Brenninkmeyer (Belgium)

C&A is one of Europe's leading fashion retailers with over 1,000 stores in 13 countries. Now headquartered in Germany, the group is private, entirely owned by the widely spread Brenninkmeyer (or Brenninkmeijer) family, who until recently maintained strict secrecy about all company affairs. The family also runs the C&A brand in Latin America and has extensive investments in other industries in Europe and Asia. In 2000, C&A closed all its operations in the UK after making huge losses since the mid-1990s. The family exited the US market as well in 2004.
