Aviva (UK)

Aviva is one the world's biggest insurance and financial services providers, and the market leader in the UK where it is currently best known as Norwich Union. However, that name and 200-year heritage, along with several others in international markets, will be phased out by 2010 in favour of a single global identity under the Aviva brand. One of the few subsidiaries likely to retain its current branding is the UK-based motoring services business RAC. The group was formed in 2000 from the merger of Norwich Union with CGU, itself the result of a combination two years earlier of Commercial Union and General Accident. In addition to the UK, Aviva has subsidiaries in almost 30 other countries worldwide, although its main sphere of operations is Europe.
