marketing giant WPP
is now neck and neck with Omnicom
as the world's biggest marketing group. It had expanded its portfolio
considerably in recent years with a string of major
acquisitions including Young & Rubicam,
Tempus, Cordiant
and most recently Grey Global Group.
The latter gave WPP ownership of its fifth global advertising
network, alongside JWT, Ogilvy
& Mather
and Y&R, as well as a substantial
portfolio of market research, PR, direct marketing, design and consultancy
subsidiaries. WPP was the #2 ad organisation worldwide in 2007 with
